HISTORY

Centennial Park Golf Centre opened on June 30, 1987 as an 18-hole executive length golf course, driving range and mini-golf. It was originally designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Bob Labbett. Dr. Michael Hurdzan has designed other golf courses in the area such as The Pulpit and The Paintbrush, Georgian Bay Club and 2017 U.S. Open venue, Erin Hills. The ownership of Centennial Park Golf Centre had made a deal to pay Larry Mize an appearance fee to come for the opening festivities to hit some shots for the crowd. Well, in between that deal and the opening of the course, Larry went on to win the 1987 Masters Tournament after a thrilling playoff chip-in. Mr. Mize stayed true to his word though and showed up for the opening and did it for the previously agreed upon appearance fee. The popularity of the sport of golf in the late 90's and early 2000's causes significant wait times at Centennial which eventually led to the construction of the North Course that was completed and opened in 2001.
